Description
1954 Ford F100 Pickup
The first restyling of Ford's popular F-series truck included an expanded cab, stylish new grille, and longer hood that flowed into the front fenders. Changes from the first F-series Pickup to the second generation went beyond a face lift. Ford expanded the truck's wheelbase, with longer front and rear leaf springs fitted to improve ride quality while still maintaining hauling ability. The front suspension was set back to allow a tighter turning radius. A new cargo bed, measuring 6 1/2 feet by 20 inches, would be used all the way up into the eighties.
Right out of 1954 to potentially your driveway, we have a fully restored and slightly rodded 1954 Ford Pickup truck. Bathed in raspberry, (like the beret she wore), shiny Cragar SS old "skool" wheels, an engine circa 1968 in 302ci form, and a like new gray interior, this truck is low hanging fruit ripe for the picking out of our hallowed halls here at Classic Auto Mall.
Exterior
Very nicely done with well minded gaps, this straight steel exterior is bathed in ravishing raspberry which is just delightful. The front grille has been retained and now matches the remainder of the truck. Some chromed trimmings kept to a minimum are seen throughout and are beautifully shiny and pit free. This is a step side model so there is a running board attaching the front and rear rounded fenders. The cab has a long rear glass for much better panoramic vision, and on back a new oak lined bed which is highly lacquered stretched between the cab and the F O R D embossed tailgate. Below the back bumper has been shaved and now below we see chromed tipped clamshell tips. Nice Ford badged blue dot taillights hang from either side, and those snappy retro 80's Cragar 5 spokes are nicely polished and wrapped in raised white letter Grand Sport Radial GT's.
Interior
A swing of the near perfect doors and we are greeted with some gray fuzzy broadcloth covered panels with a triangular damask insert that has salmon small triangles in it for highlighting. Shiny ribbed cranks and actuators and a gray covered armrest complete the look. The original seat has been upgraded to a split bench with fuzzy broadcloth bolsters in the neutral gray, along with more tuck and roll triangular pattern damask inserts to match the doors. In front is a beautiful metal dash bathed in the raspberry and sporting the original instrument cluster. A rally steering wheel courtesy Grant GT is fronting the dash. As we move across the dash, we can see a trio of aftermarket gauges in the very center along with a few extra pulls and toggles. Reaching for the sky from the black carpeted floors is a long stem Hurst shifter with a T topper, and also, we can see the billet style shiny pedals under the steering wheel. A Ford factory heater is under the passenger side of the dash.
Drivetrain
A heave of the large hood, and we can bask our eyes on the mechanical jewel circa 1969 and in 302ci configuration. The consigner states a mild cam has been installed and this mill is now topped with a 4-barrel carburetor. On back is now a 4-speed manual Toploader tranny which pushes power rearward to a Dana 44 rear axle and pumpkin. A blue painted block with chromed valve coverings and a chrome round air cleaner covering, new wiring and hoses, and a diamond plate shiny fan housing cover, all add up to fab.
Undercarriage
Up on the lift and we see plenty of steel which is covered in a light misting of surface rust. No invasive rust through with solid body hangers, rockers and floor pans. Dual glass pack style exhaust snakes their way backward, and leaf spring suspension is seen on all 4 corners on its way back. Drum brakes are all around.
Drive-Ability
Care needs to be taken as we fired this truck up and it came right to life. Plenty of power but it needs to be used responsibly as this truck has its original drum brakes and no power steering. Also, the factory heater is not hooked up.
A very nice presentation all around gotta love the raspberry with the wonderful gray interior, and snappy Cragar throwbacks. A modernized version of a truck from an era when most of its drivers wore uniforms with their name stitched above the breast pocket. I'll take two with a dollop of high test gas.
