Vehicle DetailsFord Other. 1960 Dekalb Forward Van Model REA. Built on a 1960 Ford P350 Chassis, this van is titled, running and providing family fun at Ohio area car shows. The van was refurbished in 2020 and restored to Railway Express Agency livery including the typical Tobacco billboard. A former Montana area truck there is no significant rust. The chassis is solid and painted in standard REA red. Equipped with a Ford 223 straight overhead valve six and Ford-O-Matic transmission. The Dekalb Body Number is FV-F-REA Serial Number 12. This is clearly a low volume production vehicle. Note to movie car companies, this is a money maker, the REA van is perfect for period film settings. The truck has been fitted with 1962 Ford F350 wheels and new tires. The transmission has been completely rebuilt. The gas tank has been restored. The engine has been completely overhauled and the radiator has been rebuilt. The transmission also received a full rebuild in 2020. Extremely rare there is only one other known Dekalb REA shorty van survives and its currently in a restoration process at a RR museum. This is the only Ford based truck Dekalb shorty known to exist. Driver side windshield glass has also been replaced. All outboard Do-Ray clearance lamps have been replaced with NOS lamps. The carb has been rebuilt. This truck runs and drives and can be confindently taken on long distance travel. From an historical basis, Dekalb Commercial Body Corp of Dekalb, Illinois operated from 1911-1970. Known primarily as a wagon manufacturer, the company expanded into vans and fire engines in the 1920. The Railway Express Agency operated from 1917-1975. The agency was a quasi government agency from 1917 till 1930 and then became a Railroad owned business through the 1960’s. REA Express is essentially an older version of UPS or Federal Express. The speedometer and odometer broke last summer, the actual milage driven is unknown. Please note that the black and white photo depicts an actual Dekalb FV-C-REA in period action
